Cold weather persists across northern Vietnam
VOV.VN - Cold weather continues across much of northern Vietnam on January 12, keeping overnight and early-morning temperatures low, while daytime conditions remain largely sunny.
Northern and north-central regions are seeing cold weather at night and in the early morning, with some mountainous areas experiencing severe cold. Central region is seeing scattered showers and northeasterly winds, while southern region and Ho Chi Minh City are sunny during the day and cooler at night.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the weather pattern from the night of January 11 through January 13 is expected to remain mostly stable across the North and the North Central region, with little rain at night, light morning fog in some areas and sunshine during the day.
Temperatures will stay low overnight and in the early morning, and parts of the northern mountains and midland areas may continue to see severe cold. High-altitude areas are advised to watch for frost and possible ice.
From Quang Tri to Da Nang and in the eastern parts of Quang Ngai to Gia Lai, isolated showers are forecast, with cooler conditions at night and in the early morning in northern sections of this zone. Other regions may see light rain at night and sunshine during the day, while the Central Highlands remain cold overnight and in the early morning.
In Hanoi, skies are mostly clear, with no rain overnight, light morning fog, sunshine during the day and light winds. Overnight lows are expected to range from about 11 to 13 degrees Celsius, with daytime highs of 22 to 24 degrees.
Actual observations from the evening of January 11 through the morning of January 12 show temperatures dropping sharply in many northern and north-central localities, especially in highland areas. Several mountain locations recorded temperatures below 6 degrees Celsius, while higher elevations such as Mau Son saw readings around 8 degrees.
Meteorological agencies advise residents in areas affected by severe cold to keep warm and take preventive measures to protect health, crops and livestock.
