Cold spell intensifies, frost and rain expected

VOV.VN - Frost and rain will hit northern mountainous localities as of January 27, when another cold spell is expected to spread across the northern region, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

The ongoing cold spell that struck the northern region two days ago has sent temperatures dropping to a low of 10 degrees Celsius in the lowlands and less than 7 in the highlands.

Daily temperatures are increasing slightly on January 25 and beyond as the sun rises throughout the day.

But another cold spell likely to hit as of January 27 will cause temperatures to drop again to a low of nine degrees Celsius in the lowlands and three degrees in the highlands.

Due to the cold snap, the northwestern region is anticipated to be covered with frost during the early morning, weather experts said.

Elsewhere, the temperature from Quang Binh to Thua Thien-Hue provinces is forecast to drop slightly to 17 degrees Celsius on January 27, before falling dramatically to as low as 14 degrees Celsius the following day.

On January 27 and January 28, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, and Binh Dinh provinces will all see spells of scattered light showers and thunderstorms.
