Cold front to bring severe chill and heavy rain to northern and central Vietnam
VOV.VN - An intensified cold surge arriving on December 13 is expected to bring severe cold to the northern mountains and midlands, with some high-altitude areas turning bitterly cold, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has reported.
The northern delta and the northern central region will also turn cold, while Hanoi is forecast to see heavy rain and thunderstorms with risks of lightning, squalls, and strong gusts.
The cold front will move into the northeast before spreading to the northern central coast and parts of central Vietnam over the next 24 hours. Northeasterly winds over land will strengthen, and coastal areas may experience stronger gusts.
In Hanoi, moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected from the night of December 12 through December 13. Temperatures will drop from December 13, with some areas likely to see a sharper decline.
At sea, northeasterly winds will intensify from midday December 13, generating rough seas and high waves across several maritime zones, posing risks to vessels and offshore operations.
From the night of December 12 through December 14, northern provinces and areas from Thanh Hoa to Khanh Hoa will experience moderate to heavy rain, with some areas seeing very heavy rainfall. Thunderstorms may bring lightning, hail, and strong gusts.
The cold conditions and widespread rain may harm livestock and crops, and increase the risk of urban flooding, flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas.
