The National Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Control and the National Committee for Search and Rescue have urged coastal provinces to prepare for evacuation of residents from areas lying in the path of the storm.

According to their latest reports, at 07:00 on September 27, the eye of storm was located at 15.6 degrees north latitude and 116.4 degree east longitude, packing winds between 80-102 km per hour near its centre. The storm is forecast to move between west-northwest at a speed of 20-25km per hour.

At 07:00 on September 28, the eye of the storm was located at 16.0 degree north latitude and 112.0 degree east longitude, about 80km off the caost of central Quang Tri province and Da Nang city. The strongest gusts of wind have reached gale force 12 and 13 near the storm’s centre.

The northern parts of the East Sea are experiencing high winds, heavy rains and very rough seas.

The National Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Control and the National Committee for Search and Rescue asked Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Thua Thien-Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, and Quang Ngai to implement the Prime Minister’s urgent telegram No 1794 dated September 26 and take measures to cope with the storm. The Prime Minister asked local authorities to evacuate people from storm-prone areas. Da Nang city and Quang Ngai province should instruct fishing vessels operating in the East Sea and Hoang Sa (Spratly) archipelagos to move ashore or return to nearby storm shelters. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Ministry of Defense were asked to send two teams to help the provinces of Ha Tinh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue.

*** Meanwhile, according to the National Hydro-meteorological Forecasting Centre, the Ca, Srepok and Dong Nai rivers continue to swell. On September 27-28, the water levels in the Ca river in Nam Dan reached 7m, 0.1m higher than the second-alert level while the Srepok and Dong Nai rivers were at a higher level, almost at the third alert level.

In addition, on September 28, the water levels at rivers in the Quang Nam and Quang Ngai will rise and heavy rains are expected to flood rivers from Thua Thien-Hue to Thanh Hoa. It is forecast that there will be heavy flooding Thanh Hoa to Quang Ngai.

Flash floods and landslides are also expected to occur in mountain areas and valleys in the provinces from Thanh Hoa to Quang Ngai and in the south central highlands.
