The Chinese embassy in Vietnam on August 9 sent a memo to the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ask government agencies to search for the fishing boat Qiong Dan Zhou 00878, which lost contact in the Tonkin gulf during the Goni storm.

The same day, the Chinese National Committee for Search and Rescue asked the Vietnamese Maritime Search and Rescue Co-Ordination Centre to keep them updated.

At the same time, the committee also asked the Border Guards High command, the Naval forces and the maritime police to supply all units with information concerning the Chinese fishing boat.

The boat with a crew of 11 fishermen on board from Hainan province lost contact when it was fishing about 48 nautical miles to the northeast of Bach Long Vy Island.
