Chile wants to share experiences with Vietnam in developing women’s rights, assured the Chilean President Michelle Bachelet during an exchange with Vietnamese female delegates in Hanoi on November 18.

Ms Bachelet said the exchange is of great significance, contributing to promoting the fine relationship between the two countries’ women. She said more than half of Chile’s population are women and the Chilean Government has attached importance to improving women’s role and position in society over the past years. To this end, the Chilean government has adopted many policies including programmes on caring children and helping women have more time to do social activities. She said half of the Chilean leadership staff is women. Vietnam and Chile have many similarities in promoting women’s rights and position in society. Therefore, Chile wants to share experiences with Vietnam in issues relating to gender equality, anti-discrimination, women’s role and position in society. She said she admired the Vietnamese people’s struggle for national liberation.


On behalf of more than 350 female delegates, President of the Vietnam Women’s Union Ha Thi Khiet thanked the Chilean President for holding exchange with

Vietnamese female delegates and emphasised that the President’s visit will contribute to promoting cooperation between Vietnamese and Chilean women, and boosting bilateral relations between Vietnam and Chile.
