A liver transplant on a 16-month child was conducted on December 4 by doctors from Ho Chi Minh City’s Hospital of Paediatrics No2 with assistance from Belgian experts.

This is the third liver transplant performed free-of-charge by the hospital and the sixth of its kind in the country.

Liver recipient Trang Hoang Phuc in HCM City had suffered from an inborn bile duct atrophy and the donor was his 38-year-old mother, Pham Phuong Tuyen.

According to the hospital's deputy director Dr. Tran Dong A, the hospital has been taking care of a pair of conjoined twins from the southernmost province of Ca Mau, who are joined in chest and stomach and share the lungs, hearts and livers.
