More than VND11.7 billion has been raised through a charitable programme called “One heart - One world” in support of orphans and people with disabilities.

The cultural exchange programme was broadcast live on VOV3 on the evening of April 13, featuring heartening examples of disabled people who are strong willed and are determined to overcome their difficulties and hardships to enjoy a better life and successfully integrate into the community.

Through the programme, the audiences heard about kind-hearted people who sympathized and provided financial assistance to underprivileged people. In particular, Nguyen Tan Bong and his mother in southern An Giang province took responsibility to look after 10 orphans. The Venerable Thich Minh Nghiem, head of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha’s Phu Tho provincial chapter, and Buddhist followers, visited and gave assistance to disabled people with difficulties.

Tran Van Tin, director of the ICEVN computer company, offered vocational training for more than 1,000 disabled children in Ho Chi Minh City. Nguyen Thi Kim Huong, director of the Kim Huong jewelry company in southern An Giang province, has set up a centre to take care of 150 orphans.

Notably, Susanna Mork from Sweden has adopted two Vietnamese children, one of them suffering from brain damage.
