Officials from the Nghe An Provincial Animal Health Department has declared a new outbreak of bird flu that affected three duck farms in Nghe An earlier this month.

Over 1,400 ducks died in Hung Nguyen District from May 8. Later tests confirmed the deaths were from the lethal H5N1 virus.

This is the second reported outbreak in Nghe An in a week.

Local veterinarians and officials have worked together in the affected zones to destroy the dead birds and disinfect surrounding areas. They are also monitoring the transportation of poultry to and from the zones.

Nghe An is currently the only province reporting bird flu outbreaks in the country.
