The Hanoi-based Central Pediatrics Hospital is preparing for the second bone marrow transplant at the end of November.
The child patient is Truong Thi Ninh, 15, in Mong Cai district, northern Quang Ninh province and the donor is her younger brother Truong Cao Che, 6 years old.
The hospital director, Dr Nguyen Thanh Liem, said the patient’s poor family is in dire need of financial support as the surgery may cost up to VND300 million.
The first bone marrow transplant for 7-year-old patient Dang Gia Hung had been very successful. The patient was discharged from hospital on October 13, two months after the surgery. He is now in good condition.
