Cargill Cares raises nearly VND4 billion for charitable activities
(VOV) - Nearly 5,000 customers and visitors participated in a charity bazaar held by Cargill Vietnam, in Dai Nam tourism resort in the southern province of Binh Duong, on July 20.
Chief representative from Cargill Vietnam, Chanh Truong said since the beginning of the year, the Cargill Cares fund has raised nearly VND4 billion for charitable activities.. In addition, the US Cargill Group and its staff have also contributed to the fund, bringing total donations to nearly VND10 billion.
This year, Cargill Vietnam has built nine schools, from pre-school to higher education in the provinces of Phu Yen, Thanh Hoa, Binh Duong, Phu Tho, Binh Dinh and Bac Kan.
It is hoped that the charity fund will help build additional eight schools next year and fulfill the target of building 75 schools for students in remote areas by 2015.
Fifty percent of the Cargill Cares funding has been contributed by philanthropists , including customers and providers, while the remainder comes from the Cargill Group.
Over the past 18 years, the fund has contributed VND74.6 billion to charitable activities includingproviding aid to flood victims, granting scholarships and school materials to poor students, supplying equipment to orphans, and building schools in remote areas.
