Beginning in 2004, the project has helped establish 97 Women’s Livelihood and Rights Clubs (LARC) in the northern provinces of Hoa Binh and Bac Can, attracting the participation of some 3,000 poor women.
With their improved knowledge of laws and policies, the poor women became more confident in voicing their feedback, supervising social welfare projects in their localities, and giving suggestions to the local authorities to obtain more effectiveness in production.
The model of these clubs has been approved by the Vietnam Women’s Union to be expanded nationwide.
CARE International is one of the world’s three largest organisations participating in poverty reduction programmes in 70 countries and territories.
