Canada supports protecting the rights of domestic workers

(VOV) - The Embassy of Canada on January 14 announced a grant of CAD 24,448 (about VND500 million) through the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives 2013-2014 for Health Bridge Canada’s project “Protecting the rights of domestic workers”.

“The Embassy of Canada in Vietnam is pleased to support the excellent work of Health Bridge Canada. This project spotlights the critical issue of domestic workers’ rights, and has a particular impact on women” said David Devine, Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam.

“We hope that the project will support the further promotion of the rights of domestic workers in Vietnam,” he said.

Health Bridge and its partners have been working to protect the rights of domestic workers through support for legislative development and a supportive environment for policy implementation in Vietnam.

Support through the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives will help make this possible through training workshops for civil society organizations and journalists; consultative meetings with experts working on the content of the draft decree; and through awareness raising activities, including a media campaign, for the public, policy makers and domestic workers themselves.

This project is being implemented in Hanoi in 2013-2014 in partnership with the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), mass media and domestic workers.
