The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) has decided to give priority to providing aid to five Asian nations, including Vietnam, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Indonesia.

The announcement was made by Syed Sajadur Rahman, head of the Asian Department under the CIDA, who will pay a working visit to Vietnam in November.

Mr Rahman said that the agency’s annual budget is around CAD518 million for Africa, CAD451 million for Asia, and CAD25-30 million for Vietnam.

In Vietnam, the CIDA will help with economic development and capacity building for the agricultural sector and rural development.

The agency will support institutional and judicial reforms in Vietnam, and in small and medium-sized enterprises, especially in rural areas, improve agricultural productivity, provide vocational training and enhance workers skills.
