The Canadian government has decided to provide US$850,000 in humanitarian aid to help Vietnam’s central region affected by storm Ketsana in September.

The sum is part of the US$5 million aid package announced by the Minister of International Cooperation Beverley J. Oda to support storm-devastated areas in Southeast Asia.

The money will go on charity in Kon Tum and Quang Tri and some other provinces, which were most seriously affected by storm Ketsana. Thousands of households will be provided with clean water, housing, and medical service.

The money is being sent to four Canadian NGOs operating in Vietnam such as Oxfam Québec, PLAN Canada, the Canadian Centre for International Studies and Cooperation (CECI) and the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
