Cambodian group found begging in Dong Nai after illegal entry
VOV.VN- Dong Nai police said on May 8 they had discovered a group of Cambodian nationals who illegally entered Vietnam, rented accommodation and were found begging in public areas in the city.
According to the Immigration Management Division under Dong Nai Police, officers coordinated with Long Binh Ward Police to inspect a lodging facility in Quarter 18, Long Binh Ward, where they found seven Cambodian households comprising 22 people, including nine adults and 13 children, staying illegally.
The group admitted to crossing into Vietnam through informal border crossings without completing immigration procedures, police said.
After renting accommodation in Long Binh Ward, members of the group reportedly split up to beg in public areas, including overpasses, markets and busy intersections.
The owner of the lodging facility failed to declare the temporary residence of the foreign nationals in accordance with regulations.
Police have also worked with four motorcycle taxi drivers who regularly transported the group to begging locations. However, initial findings showed no signs of organised begging operations or labour coercion for profit involving the families.
The Immigration Management Division advised accommodation providers to comply with regulations on checking identification documents and declaring temporary residence for tenants, particularly foreign nationals.
Residents were also urged to remain vigilant and avoid assisting with transportation or participating in activities linked to organised begging or exploitation for profit.
The division is continuing to coordinate with Long Binh Ward Police to verify the case, finalize case files and handle the matter in accordance with Vietnamese law.
