Buddhism elements in traditional arts were discussed at a workshop held in northern Ha Tay province on July 20 with the aim of promoting the conservation of national cultural values amid an increasing trend of globalisation and integration.

Twenty reports at the workshop affirmed the influence of Buddhist teachings on the spiritual and cultural life of the whole nation. They all agreed that its impact can be seen everywhere, from the architecture of pagodas and village communal houses to literature and other kinds of art.

The reports gave an in-depth analysis of Buddhist art during four centuries from 1010 to 1400 under the reign of the Ly and Tran dynasties, which witnessed the thriving of Buddhist-inspired art, literature and architecture with a lot of poetry, prose, Buddhist scriptures and architectural works of which t he one-pillar pagoda in Hanoi is the most vivid example.

Buddhism influence on traditional performance arts was also highlighted at the workshop.
