Bomb blast at gold shop wounds more than ten
A bomb exploded at Hoang Tin gold store on Nguyen Thai Hoc Street, Hanoi, on the morning of June 21, leaving over ten people wounded.
The explosion occurred at around 10.45 am, followed by a fire. Fire fighters appeared ten minutes later to control the blaze.
A witness who works for the store said that a man wearing a mask and carrying a bundle entered the gold shop after 10am, saying the he wanted to sell some gold. He later gave the shop owner a piece of paper threatening to detonate a bomb if he did not receive a certain sum of money.
After some pushing about, a shop employee threw the bundle to the door, while another employee shouted to warn others. Employees then ran out of the shop and tried to close the door to prevent the man from running away and protect people outside the store. The bomb exploded while the door was being closed.
Another witness, Nguyen Van Tiep, a guard at a nearby sports shop, said that a man walked past the gold store and threw a bag into the shop before running. He believed the man then pressed something near his stomach and the explosion occurred immediately.
Over ten people, including several passers-by and employees of the gold shop and the neighbouring cosmetic shop were injured.
Along with damage to the two stores, the explosion also burnt a motorbike and broke the glass of a truck which had stopped in front of the gold shop. The truck driver was seriously wounded.
Police arrested two male suspects and are investigating the case.
