Boat capsizes in central Vietnam, two dead and two missing
VOV.VN - Two people have died and two go missing after a boat carrying seven family members capsized on the Gianh River in central Vietnam on February 19, local authorities said.
The incident occurred at around 11:30 a.m. on the Gianh River section passing through Tuyen Binh commune, Quang Tri province, on the third day of the Lunar New Year.
According to preliminary information, the boat was carrying three adults and four children from the same family when it suddenly overturned and sank.
Local residents who witnessed the accident rushed to the scene and rescued four people, including a 36-year-old woman and three children aged 12, 10 and 3. However, the three-year-old child later died despite emergency treatment. A 68-year-old woman who was also pulled from the water was pronounced dead.
Two others – a 68-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy – remain missing.
Authorities of Tuyen Binh commune said rescue teams, including local police and provincial forces, were mobilised to search for the missing victims. Officials noted that deep water in the area has complicated search efforts.
