The Veterinary Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development reported on June 9 that bird flu is still spreading across the country.

A new outbreak was detected at Thoi Thuan hamlet, Thoi Thach commune, Co Do district in Can Tho city after four of a 350-duck flock died. The flock was later culled after test results came back positive for H5N1 virus.


Since the beginning of May, bird flu has recurred in 16 provinces and cities across the country, namely Nghe An, Nam Dinh, Son La, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Bac Giang, Dong Thap, Can Tho, Ninh Binh, Bac Ninh, Vinh Phuc, Ha Nam, Quang Nam, Hung Yen, Thai Binh and Phu Tho.


The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development issued an official document on the implementation of the action month for disinfections across the country in June.


To date, 63 provinces have carried out first phase of the vaccination campaign in 2007 to 135.3 million birds, including 79.25 million chickens, 52.6 million ducks and 3.45 million gooses. Meanwhile, Dong Thap province began the second phase of the vaccination campaign, immunising 94,000 chickens and 2.3 million ducks.
