Bird flu is likely to abate in the coming time but the danger of epidemic recurrence remains, said Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) Bui Ba Bong at a meeting held by the National Steering Committee for Bird Flu Control in Hanoi on April 3.

According to the Veterinary Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), a newly-detected bird flu outbreak in southernmost Ca Mau province’s Tran Van Thoi district has been stamped out in time with 85 ducks being culled. Thanks to strict supervision of the epidemic situation, no new outbreaks have been reported in the province so far.

The MARD has asked localities throughout the country to conduct the first phase of the vaccination campaign against bird flu in April and intensify hygiene and disinfection measures aimed at effectively controlling the epidemic before the annual cycle of bird flu hits.

The National Steering Committee for Bird Flu Control has also requested
the Veterinary Department to make regular reports on the implementation of bird flu vaccination campaign in every locality.

According to the Veterinary Department’s recent report, 20 provinces and cities have conducted the first drive of the vaccination campaign for 20 million poultry, namely Tien Giang, Can Tho, Dong Thap, Binh Duong, Tay Ninh, Quang Ngai, Quang Nam, Da Nang, Nghe An, Ninh Binh, Nam Dinh, Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Lang Son, Bac Giang, Bac Ninh, Quang Ninh, Hai Phong.
