The outbreak was detected at a breeding farm belonging to Tran Van To in Khanh Hung commune, Tran Van Thoi district, on December 31, 2009. The farm was home to 95 chickens and most of the dead birds tested positive for the A/H5N1 virus.

All his chickens have been culled to prevent the spread of the deadly disease.
