Bird flu has recurred in the Mekong Delta after over a month of being contained in the region, according to the Veterinary Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).
Bird flu was found on February 25 among a flock of 800 unvaccinated ducks in Thoi Hoa commune, Tra On district, Vinh Long province, the department said on March 1, adding that local veterinarians culled all the ducks and disinfected the infected area.
Bui Quang Anh, Director of the Veterinary Department, urged the Mekong Delta provinces to increase their control of water fowl breading in accordance with the ministry's regulations.
According to the Department of Veterinary, only 25 million doses out of the 150 million doses of vaccines needed have been imported and distributed to Mekong Delta provinces so far. An additional 20 million doses will be imported between March 10-13 and the remainder is expected to arrive by the end of this month.
