According to the Veterinary Department, bird flu occurs in 42 communes across 19 districts of the seven Mekong Delta provinces of Ca Mau, Bac Lieu, Hau Giang, Vinh Long, Kien Giang, Tra Vinh and Soc Trang and Can Tho City.
While working with local authorities of Ho Chi Minh City on January 19, the Minister of Health, Tran Thi Trung Chien, head of the Government inspection mission for bird flu prevention and control, praised the city for successfully combating bird flu in the localities. The inspection team also asked the city to take more efforts in checking and monitoring the slaughter, trading and transport of poultry stocks.
*** The Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu reported two bird flu outbreaks in Gia Rai and Vinh Loi districts and culled 570 birds.
*** The supplemental vaccination for poultry stocks is continuing across the country with 3.668 million birds, including 588,000 chickens and 3 million ducks vaccinated.
Foot-and-mouth disease occurs in Central Highlands Kon Tum province
On January 19, the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum reported foot-and-mouth disease in 19 communes of 6 districts. More than 1,300 pigs and 31 buffaloes and cows have been affected by the disease.
The local authorities have cooperated with households to disinfect affected areas and assist VND10,000 per kg for each culled beast.
