Binh Thuan: 11 houses collapse due to coastal erosion

Eleven houses in Tien Thanh commune in Phan Thiet city of the south central coastal province of Binh Thuan collapsed on December 20 due to coast erosion triggered by high tide and strong wind.

More than 1,000m of coastline were seriously eroded, posing a threat to 49 other houses in the area.

The Thanh Hai border post has sent soldiers to the site to move the homeless people to safe shelter.

Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Phan Thiet city Nguyen Nam Long said the Steering Board for flood and storm control of the city has mobilised personnel to help local residents reinforce their houses and build temporary dykes.

Local authorities also ordered close monitoring of the situation for prompt reports and warned people in high-risk areas not to stay at their houses at night.
