Ben Tre launches Japanese water education programme
VOV.VN - On March 22, the Japanese water education programme “Mizuiku – I love clean water” was launched in the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre with the aim of educating children on the role of water on the planet.
The “Mizuiku - I love clean water" programme was initiated by the Suntory Holding Ltd of Japan in 2004.
Vietnam was the first country other than Japan to carry out this project, beginning in 2015. The programme was focused on raising children's awareness on the importance of water resources and water hygiene in daily life.
In 2017, the programme will be implemented in 30 elementary schools across the country, providing training courses for teachers and students on the role of water and methods to protect and use water efficiently.
Nguyen Long Hai, Secretary of the the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee, said that the programme has contributed to environment protection and climate change adaption over the past two years.
After two years, the programme has run more than 400 classes on the subject of water and 16 festivals with the participation of over 14,000 schoolchildren. It also funded the installation of eight water filter systems and build new toilets at 16 elementary schools.
