Beauty contest for Vietnamese youth in Japan

(VOV) - A boy from Hai Duong province, Nguyen Van Hieu, was voted Mr Vietnam and a Japanese girl of Vietnamese origin, Pham Miyuki, was crowned at a beauty contest for Vietnamese youth in Japan on January 5.

Under the auspices of the Vietnamese Embassy, the pageant is seen as a highlight of cultural activities among the Vietnamese community in Japan during New Year.

Head of the organising board Tong Kim Giao said the contest provided an excellent opportunity for Vietnamese people in Japan to come together and raise their profile.

He revealed more activities and events are scheduled this year to help young Vietnamese people bond and promote their homeland.

Mr Vietnam Nguyen Van Hieu said the competition helps unite Vietnamese people in Japan and strengthen diplomatic ties between the two nations.

The qualifying round took place in August 2013, drawing the participation of many young Vietnamese people living in Japan, Twenty-two contestants, including 12 girls, entered the final round.

The final was also a get-together for Vietnamese residents living far away from home with music performances, fashion shows and comedies presented by singers, actors and actresses flying from Vietnam.
