More than 5,700 people in the northern province of Bac Kan will have access to clean water thanks to projects funded by the French Red Cross Society (FRCS).

The FRCS provided US$1 million (roughly VND18 billion) to help the Pac Nam and Ba Be districts in Bac Kan province run clean water and rural sanitation projects.

FRCS President Jean Francois Mattei visited the area on January 23-25 and said VND4.9 billion has been disbursed through FRCS-funded projects from 2008-2009 to increase public awareness of environmental sanitation and build standard toilets. “The remaining fund of these projects will be used to provide clean water in Giao Hieu, Cong Bang and Cao Thuong communes,” he said.

The FRCS-funded projects have not only granted benefits to local people but also helped to ensure sustainable development in the province, particularly in tourism and culture.
