The Australian Ambassador to Vietnam, Bill Tweddell, has emphasized the vibrancy of media reporting in the country over the last few years.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of a journalism training workshop in Hanoi on March 21, Ambassador Tweddell said: "Since arriving in Vietnam a year and a half ago, I have viewed reporting in this country with great interest, and I have found it a good source of information for both my professional and personal interests."

Co-organised by the Vietnam-based Australian Education International (AEI) and the Vietnam News Agency (VNA), the training workshop, meant to improve local reporters' skills in covering educational and social news, saw the participation of more than 40 reporters and journalists from various media such as print, Internet, television and radio.

During the three-day workshop, participants will gain experience from experts from Australian universities in choosing and preparing documents for topics, as well as learning new skills on how to write articles and conduct interviews with international politicians.

At the ceremony, VNA Deputy General Director Ha Minh Hue said that he hopes the course will open up a new and long-term cooperational programme between VNA and AEI.

A similar course will be also held in Ho Chi Minh City in the near future.
