Association of Vietnamese Intellectuals in Japan work to foster friendship

VOV.VN - The Association of Vietnamese Intellectuals in Japan (AVIJ) on April 16 held a congress to review activities during the 2019-2021 tenure and outline orientations for the next term.

In his speech at the congress, Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Vu Hong Nam noted his appreciation for AVIJ's activities in recent years, including the successful organization of the Vietnam Intellectual Forum in Japan despite being negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Vietnamese diplomat expressed his hope that that in the new term, with greater resources and stronger network, AVIJ will coordinate more effectively with other organizations of the Vietnamese community in Japan in launching a range of activities as a practical contribution to the national development of science and technology.

In a report reviewing the association's activities during the 2019-2021 tenure, AVIJ Chairman Le Duc Anh highlighted the successful organization of the Vietnam Intellectual Forum (Vietnam Summit in Japan) held in 2019 and 2021 as one of the most outstanding activities conducted by the AVIJ during the last term.

Notably, the first Vietnam Intellectuals Forum in Japan attracted the participation of nearly 900 Vietnamese intellectuals inside and outside Japan, along with representatives of a number of ministries and agencies of the Vietnamese Government.

At the congress, delegates discussed orientations for AVIJ's activities in the coming time and elected a new Executive Committee for the 2021-2023 term led by Ta Viet Phuong, a Vietnamese intellectual working for Amazon group in Japan, as chairman.

Speaking after taking office, the new AVIJ chairman pledged to make every effort to enhance the association's operational efficiency, including rearranging the organizational structure and completing the association's website.

According to Ta Viet Phuong, in the new term, AVIJ is set to build a database of Vietnamese scientists and experts in Japan and support activities aimed at stepping up bilateral cooperation in science-technology, culture and education, while launching a broad array of activities in celebration of the 50th anniversary of both nations' diplomatic ties.

AVIJ was established in November 2019, with the aim of connecting Vietnamese individuals and individual intellectual groups in Japan in order to gather collective strength, while simultaneously raising the position and role of the Vietnamese intellectual community in Japan, thereby contributing to the development of the home country as well as the ties of friendship between the two countries.
