ASEM Customs Directors-General and Commissioners convene for 13th meeting

VOV.VN - Ha Long city in the northeastern province of Quang Ninh played host to the 13th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Customs Directors-General and Commissioners on October 9 with a view of fulfilling Vietnam’s membership obligations within the framework of the ASEM.

Up to 53 delegations led by the directors-general and commissioners of various customs agencies of different ASEM members stand with the Secretary General of the World Customs Organisation, representatives from the European Union, and embassies of ASEM states at the event in Vietnam.
During his opening remarks at the meeting, Deputy Minister of Finance Do Hoang Anh Tuan stresses that the occasion aims to bring positive results to ASEM members through building an ASEM customs action plan which can facilitate increased trade and control customs in an effective manner.
Upon addressing the event, Nguyen Van Can, Director General of the General Department of Vietnam Customs, notes how the event marks the first meeting held in Vietnam, indicating the great trust put in the nation by other ASEM member states.
The meeting sees the participation of 150 delegates from 53 delegations worldwide.
Delegates engage with other participants at the event.
During the two-day meeting, delegates will have time to devise specific action programmes suitable for the ASEM customs action plan for the 2020- 2021 period.
Participants will also discuss detailed plans regarding the 14th ASEM Customs Directors-General and Commissioners meeting in 2021.
The highlight of the meeting will be the Ha Long Declaration which is to be announced on October 10. The declaration will state commitments of the ASEM Customs Directors-General regarding goals and co-operation priorities in the future as well as the ASEM customs action plan for 2020 -2021.
