Representatives of publishers' associations across the South East Asian region have gathered in Hanoi for an annual conference aimed at boosting cooperation in ASEAN's publishing industry.

The second Conference of the ASEAN Book Publishers Association (ABPA) commenced on November 24 with the participation of delegates from Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Brunei, the Philippines and Vietnam.

At the conference, the Vietnam Association of Publishers, Printers and Distributors proposed a number of initiatives to enhance cooperation among ABPA member countries in order to accelerate the promotion of publications through tourism and cultural exchanges.

Deputy Minister of Culture and Information Le Tien Tho of the host country expressed hope that the publishing industry in ABPA member countries will be further developed.

The ABPA, formed in 2005 in the Philippines, has thousands of members in its eight ASEAN member countries.
