ASEAN delivers emergency aid to storm victims
VOV.VN - An aircraft carrying emergency relief from ASEAN countries to the victims of storm Damrey recently hit Vietnam's central and south-central regions landed at Cam Ranh Airport, Khanh Hoa Province on the morning of November 16.

Leaders of the four provinces of Khanh Hoa, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, and Phu Yen received the aid at the airport.
Tran Quang Hoai, General Director of the Directorate for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, said that in the spirit of ‘ONE ASEAN, ONE RESPONSE’, the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA) shared its sympathies with the Vietnamese people, especially those in the central region, who have suffered losses of life and property due to storm Damrey.In response to the damage, the AHA sent ASEAN relief goods worth a total of US$174,289 stored at Subang, Malaysia to storm victims.

Nguyen Duy Bac, vice chair of Khanh Hoa province People's Committee, said they the aid was transported to the provinces for distribution among the local people.

According to statistics from the National Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control, as of November 14, the toll of storm Damrey and its floods stood at 123 dead and missing, 3,485 houses collapsed, 8,554ha of paddy rice and 21,116ha of other subsidiary crops lost, and 1,348 fishing boats sank.
This is the second time this year that ASEAN has seen fit to provide aid to natural disaster-hit localities in Vietnam.
