The Ministry of Defence held a meeting at Division 5, Military Zone 7, on June 4 in response to World Environment Day (June 5), calling for an all-out effort by the armed forces to raise public awareness of environmental issues, and protect the environment by conserving energy and recycling materials.

“The military must serve as the core force in handling any environmental incident,” said Deputy Minister of Defence Nguyen Huy Hieu.

Mr Hieu, addressing the meeting, highlighted the need to develop environmentally-friendly technologies and incorporate environmental content into military operations and training programmes.

Meeting participants later inspected the green and waste-treatment models of Division 5.

Meanwhile, a series of activities related to World Environment Day and World Ocean Day have begun in Quang Binh province, including an exhibition promoting a marine-based economy, and a ‘seas and islands’ painting contest for young people.

On June 4, the national Sea and Island festival will officially open in Quang Binh province, providing a good opportunity to raise public awareness of marine ecology and conservation.
