April 17 COVID-19 update: Infections exceed 1,000 case mark

VOV.VN - Vietnam recorded 1,031 fresh coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, an increase more than 300 cases compared to the previous day, the Ministry of Health reported in its coronavirus update for April 17.

This is the highest number of coronavirus infections Vietnam has detected on a daily basis over the past six months, the ministry said.

The COVID-19 disease is showing signs of recurring in Vietnam when the number of infections started to rise from 43 on April 6 to 1,031 on April 17.

According to experts, the actual figure may be higher as many people undergo a self-test and self-treatment at home.

The Ministry of Health has played down public concern about a possible outbreak of the disease, saying despite a rise in infection numbers, the disease remains under control.

However, it has encouraged people to take preventive measures, including wearing a facemask in public venues and washing hands regularly when returning home.

Vietnam has so far logged more than 11.5 million coronavirus cases, ranking 13th out of 230 countries and territories worldwide.

Of the total, over 10.6 million sufferers have recovered from the disease, and 43,186 people have died of the virus and underlying illnesses.

Currently, 14 patients are relying on mechanical ventilation.
