An impressive VND10 billion is contributed by businesses, organisations and individuals to help support the handicapped and orphans at the 4th charity cultural show “One world-One heart” held in Hanoi on April 15.

The show, held by the Vietnam Association in Support of the Handicapped and Orphans in cooperation with Vietnam Television to mark Vietnam Day for People with Disabilities (April 18), was part of activities to implement to two projects “Caring children in difficult circumstances” and “Assisting handicapped people in the 2006-2010 period” approved by the Prime Minister.

The show attracted the participation of well-known Vietnamese artists and even two foreign singers Alain Maurice and Laure Mayne. After the show, the organizing board handed over VND10 billion to the Vietnam Association in Support of the Handicapped and Orphans.

The show “One world-One heart” is an annual activity of the Vietnam Association in Support of the Handicapped and Orphans and Vietnam Television. After three previous shows, the association has mobilized VND104 billion in cash and in kind to support the handicapped and orphans.

In 2006 alone, the association received nearly VND40 billion, which has greatly contributed to fulfilling the association’s five major programmes: providing cataract operations for 5,000 blind people, rehabilitating nearly 1,500 people, providing 8,200 wheelchairs for the handicapped, granting 1,300 bicycles for wounded soldiers’ children, and providing professional training for 2,400 policy beneficiaries.
