The 56-year-old patient Nguyen Thi Xuong, who lives in Binh Thanh district, was hospitalised with flu symptoms such as high temperature, severe sepsis, respiratory distress, pneumonia and mental disorder.

The patient, who was then treated at the municipal mental hospital, was admitted to the Gia Dinh People’s Hospital on September 3 and died one day later despite efforts from doctors. According to the HCM City Pasteur Institute, the patient tested positive for the A/H1N1 flu.

On September 5, the Municipal Department of Health disinfected the Intensive Care Unit, the hospital’s morgue and the room where the patient was treated. It also quarantined those who had contacted the patient for further medical check-ups.

This is the second patient who has died of the flu in the city.

Eighty-four new cases of the super flu were confirmed on September 5 by the municipal department, bringing the total number of infected patients in the city to 1,622.
