The northern region will brace itself for another strong cold spell which is moving toward Vietnam from China and is expected to affect the region on January 11.

The cold front will hit the border provinces early in the morning and then spread to other provinces in the northeastern, northwestern and north-central regions the same day, according to the Central Hydro-meteorological Forecasting Centre.

It will bring slight rain to the northern plain and cause rough seas in the Bac Bo (Tonkin) Gulf, the centre says.

Temperatures are forecast to fall by 3-5oC to 13-16oC. The weather will turn chilly in mountain localities where temperatures will drop to below 10oC, even to 2-5oC in the tourist report town of Sapa. .

The spell is expected to last for 4-5 days.
