Another cold snap is forecast to hit northern Vietnam this weekend which will cause temperatures to drop by 2-3oC, according to the National Hydro-meteorological Forecasting Centre.

Du Duc Tien, an official from the centre, says the front, which is moving toward northern Vietnam from China, will affect border provinces on Saturday. Temperatures will drop to 17-19oC at night and increase to 24-26oC during the daytime. Sunday is forecast to be cold and cloudy.

Meanwhile, a tropical depression is moving along the south-western coast, with winds gusting between 39-49km per hour near its centre.

At 13.00 on November 26, the depression was positioned at 8.3 degrees north latitude and 111.5 degrees east longitude. In the next 24 hours, it is forecast to move between north and north west and then change its direction into south east at a speed of 5-10 km per hour.

In the next 48 hours, the depression is forecast to change its course again into south west, packing sustained winds of between 5-10km per hour.

The Central Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control has asked border guard soldiers to work closely southern coastal provinces to inform fishing vessels of the direction of the depression and instruct them to escape danger areas.
