An illegal entrant infected with COVID-19

VOV.VN - A 32-year-old man, a resident of Vinh Long province, southern Vietnam, who illegally crossed the Cambodia-Vietnam border, has been diagnosed with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, according to local authorities.

The man was sent to Malaysia in September to work under a labour contract with a Malaysian partner. However, the company suspended its operation due to COVID-19, forcing him to return to Vietnam.

The man was said to travel to Thailand and Cambodia before landing in Vietnam’s Tay Ninh province that borders Cambodia, on December 24.

He had contact with numerous people on his way from the border gate to Tay Ninh and from Tay Ninh to his home in Vinh Long by bus.

He tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus by Ho Chi Minh Pasteur Institute on December 24.

The patient was then transferred to the Vinh Long Hospital of Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases for medical observation and treatment.

Local authorities scrambled to track down and quarantine those who had contact with the patient.
