All five bodies recovered from hydropower construction site landslide

VOV.VN - After two days of relentless efforts, search and rescue teams have recovered all five bodies from the debris following a landslide at the construction site of the Ta Pao Ho 1A hydropower plant in Lai Chau province.

Rescue workers located and pulled the final two bodies out of piles of soil and rocks at around 2 P.M. on May 17 as a consequence of the landslide.

After using an excavator to level and secure the higher terrain, rescue forces quickly approached the scene with machinery, shovels, and picks to dig through the debris. They discovered the first body in the rockslide incident at 9 A.M. on May 17 and two others shortly afterwards.

According to witnesses, rescue workers operated under difficult and dangerous conditions, demonstrating high responsibility and determination to complete their mission promptly and safely.

At the scene, leaders of Lai Chau province along with representatives from Military Region 2, the Provincial Military Command, Lai Chau Police visited to oversee the operation, offering support to the search teams, and expressing condolences to the victims’ families.

They also visited the injured victims currently being treated at Lai Chau Provincial General Hospital. The patients were admitted on May 16 afternoon and received emergency care, surgeries, and treatment from the hospital’s medical team. Their conditions are now stable, and they continue to receive active care.

The landslide occurred at the construction site of the Ta Pao Ho 1A Hydropower Plant in Phong Tho district, Lai Chau province, on May 16 morning, leaving five dead and four injured.

The incident happened at around 10:30 A.M. as workers were clearing the foundation pit beneath the dam area when a section of the road slope collapsed. A mass of soil and rocks slid down the slope, burying several workers below.

Initial reports from local authorities confirmed that five people were killed in the landslide, while four others were injured and immediately taken to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
