Samples taken from the ducks tested positive for A/H5N1 virus. According to Nguyen Van Hoa, head of the Duy Xuyen Animal Health Agency, more than 50 percent of the sick ducks had not been vaccinated against the deadly virus.

The local authorities are currently making moves to sterilise infected farms and cull all sick ducks.

The Quang Nam provincial Veterinary Department is mobilising all its resources to prevent a new outbreak of the disease. It has set up a hot line on 0510.3800115 for breeders to get updated on the epidemic development in the locality.
