(VOV) -HCM City customs officers on August 6 announced they seized three African elephant tusks sent from France to Danang city, with an estimated cost of VND3 billion (nearly US$150,000).
According to the results of an examination by the Institute of Tropical Biology (ITB) under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), the smuggled ivory tusks, about 14.6kg in weight, were listed in the World’s 2014 Red Book.
Earlier on August 1, customs officers checked a 15.6kg goods package sent from France as they suspected it harboured banned items. After detecting the three suspicious items, they then sent them to the ITB for examination.
Relevant agencies are continuing to investigate the case.
