Activities to be arranged in preparation for the Royal Coronation Ceremony
Many activities will be arranged in preparation for the Royal Coronation of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun, Rama X. Major events consist of royal, state, and religious ceremonies.
On 6 April 2019, each provincial governor performs a rite of gathering waters to be blessed and used for the sacred water in the Royal Purification and Anointment Ceremonies during the Royal Coronation Ceremony. The waters are collected from different significant water sources in the country.
On 8-9 April 2019, consecration rites for the waters are organized, and they are presided over by respective provincial governors. Thereafter, the waters are transferred to Bangkok for consecration again.
On 18 April 2019, the waters from 76 provinces and Bangkok are combined and go through another consecration rite, to be held at Wat Suthat, one of Bangkok's oldest and most important temples.
On 19 April 2019, the sacred water for use in the Royal Coronation Ceremony is taken in a procession from Wat Suthat to the ubosot of the Temple of the Emerald Buddha.
On 22 April 2019, 10 monks chant holy texts at the Temple of the Emerald Buddha.
On 23 April 2019, a ceremony is held at the Temple of the Emerald Buddha to make an inscription on the Royal Golden Plaque, with the official title of His Majesty the King, and the Royal Golden Plaque of His Majesty’s horoscope, as well as the engraving of the Royal Seal of State. On this occasion, the inscription of the Royal Golden Plaques, with the official titles of members of the Royal Family, is also made.
On 2 May 2019, His Majesty the King pays homage to the Equestrian Statue of King Chulalongkorn at the Royal Plaza and the Memorial of King Rama I at the foot of Memorial Bridge. He also worships sacred beings at Baisal Daksin Throne Hall and Chakrabat Biman Royal Residence.
On 3 May 2019, the Royal Golden Plaque with the official title of His Majesty the King and that of His Majesty’s horoscope, as well as the Royal Seal of State, are taken from the Temple of the Emerald Buddha to Baisal Daksin Throne Hall. His Majesty the King proceeds to pay homage the Emerald Buddha.
On 4 May 2019, the Royal Purification and Anointment Ceremonies in the Royal Coronation Ceremony take place at Chakrabat Biman Royal Residence and Atha Disa Throne, respectively. The presentation of the Royal Regalia takes place at Bhadrapitha Throne. Then, at Amarindra Vinicchaya Throne Hall, His Majesty the King grants a grand audience to members of the Royal Family, the Privy Council, and the Cabinet, as well as senior officials, to offer their best wishes to His Majesty. In the next program, he proclaims himself the Royal Patron of Religion at the ubosot of the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. There is also the Assumption of Royal Residence Ceremony at Chakrabat Biman Royal Residence.
On 5 May 2019, a ceremony to bestow the royal names of His Majesty the King’s Royal Father and Royal Mother and the new titles to members of the Royal Family take place at Amarindra Vinicchaya Throne Hall. Later, His Majesty the King goes around the city in a land procession to encircle Wat Bovoranives, Wat Rajabopidh, and Wat Phra Chetuphon.
On 6 May 2019, His Majesty the King appears on a balcony of Sutthaisawan Prasat Hall in the Grand Palace to grant a grand public audience to the general public, so that they may offer their best wishes to His Majesty. He later grants an audience to members of the international diplomatic corps, who offer their felicitations on this special occasion at Chakri Maha Prasat Throne Hall.
As for the royal barge procession, it will be held along the Chao Phraya River to Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn) during the Royal Kathin Robe Presentation Ceremony in late 2019.
