Reviewing the previous year, VOV’s Deputy Director General Dao Duy Hua said VOV broadcast over 500 commentaries, editorials and analyses in various fields from politics and economics to cultural and social affairs and sports.

Using radio broadcasts, print media, online news and television, VOV provides a timely reflection of politics, culture and society.
In 2009, VOV put its new National Radio Broadcasting Centre into operation, just in time for the celebration of the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi. The Radio also launched its VOVTV channel, began broadcasting to the East Sea and deployed its VOV Traffic channel in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Director General Vu Van Hien described VOV’s achievements as the outcome not only of incessant efforts by many generations of leadership but also of the Party’s and State’s support and assistance.
He emphasised that outstanding progress in the last year has brought VOV to a new level of development along with modern facilities, advanced technology, high-quality information processing and cooperative ties around the globe.

To acknowledge the achievements of its units, VOV’s Director General awarded commendations to 23 department-level collectives (5 first, 7 second and 11 third prizes) for their emulation efforts in 2009. He also offered flags of emulation to 6 departments and certificates of merit to 32 individuals.
