A Vietnamese student is recovering after being stabbed in the abdomen in a campus of Osaka University on July 24.

The Vietnamese students association in Japan said the male student, who was seriously injured, survived the stabbing and is recovering in a local hospital.

Japanese public broadcaster NHK reported that the 28-year-old man is doing a master’s degree in biology at Osaka University in Toyonaka city, Osaka Prefecture.  He was admitted to a local hospital nearby in critical condition.

Police cordoned off the campus area to identify the cause of the stabbing.

NHK quoted the police, saying investigations are more difficult because the Vietnamese student was found seriously injured in the campus area where no CCTV is installed.

Witnesses said they did not find any suspects at the scene.
