A Vietnamese citizen confirmed dead in Taiwan

The Vietnam Economic and Cultural Office (VECO) in Chinese Taipei confirmed that it had received official information on the death of a Vietnamese citizen from authorised agencies of China’s Taiwan.

The office said after it had received the information on August 31, it asked the Taiwanese side to investigate the death of Nguyen Quoc Phi and coordinate with the Vietnamese side to ensure the citizen’s rights and interests.

The VECO also notified the incident to Vietnam’s relevant agencies and the bereaved and assisted Phi’s relatives to come to Taiwan to complete related procedures.

The Foreign Ministry of Vietnam has directed the VECO to continue taking citizen protection measures and work with domestic agencies to provide legal procedure and material assistance to ensure Phi’s rights and legitimate interests.

The Taipei-based office is keeping a close watch and coordination with the Taiwanese side during the incident investigation and settlement.
