A solemn ceremony took place at Nha Rong Wharf in Ho Chi Minh city on June 4 to commemorate the 99th anniversary of Ho Chi Minh’s departure to seek a means of national liberation from French colonial rule.
The ceremony also marked 62 years since President Ho Chi Minh first appealed for patriotic emulation.
Many municipal officials, heroic mothers, veteran revolutionaries and local patriots attended the ceremony and offered incense and flowers to the Ho Chi Minh Statue.
Addressing the event, Municipal Director of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Thanh Rum recalled the moment 99 years ago when the young man Nguyen Tat Thanh (the former name of Ho Chi Minh) boarded a French ship to travel around the world and find a way to lead his occupied country out of slavery.
