About 1,500 delegates, including nearly 900 overseas Vietnamese, who represent Vietnamese communities in more than 100 countries and territories worldwide will attend the first conference of overseas Vietnamese to be held in Hanoi from November 21-23.

The announcement was made by Vice Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, Tran Trong Toan, at a press conference held in Hanoi on November 10.

Focusing on the theme “For a community of solidarity and strength, actively contributing to national construction”, delegates will discuss major issues including building an overseas Vietnamese community of solidarity, strength and prosperity, and preserving and promoting cultural identity and tradition within the Vietnamese community abroad.

The conference aims to assess the operations of the overseas Vietnamese community abroad and the effectiveness of Party and State policies and guidelines for overseas Vietnamese. It will also provide a forum for sharing opinions and mobilizing all resources of the overseas Vietnamese community to support Vietnam’s national modernization and industrialization process.

At the conference, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese (COVA) will hold a ceremony to mark the 50th anniversary of its establishment and receive the Ho Chi Minh Order for its contribution to the cause of national liberation and construction.
