By 2010, 85 percent of the population in rural areas will have access to safe water, 70 percent of the households will have sanitary latrines and breeding facilities, and 30 percent of the craft villages will have waste treatment systems.

These targets were unveiled by the Vietnam Farmer Union at a meeting in Hanoi on July 29 to build plans of action for the implementation of the National Campaign on Safe Water and Environment Protection in rural areas in the 2006-2010 period.

The union also plans to build in each commune a model of safe water, environmental sanitation and natural resource protection in rural areas for studies and experience sharing.
